Neo was based upon the lastest design of the xbox 360 dashboard.

  • Thats the short answer and correct. :P – BAS over 1 year ago

What your seeing there is the brand new Dashboard interface for the Xbox 360. It was released on Dec 5th 2011 and it’s design is based on the upcoming Windows 8 Metro style. A FREE Xbox Live Silver Account is all that is needed to download and acquire this update.

The design ideas for Neo was definitely inspired by early alpha shots that Microsoft released at E3 of this update. Mainly, the EHS was all they were really showing at the time of Neo development but the design was requested by Chef to be replicated into a theme for Mediabrowser

This is my Neo EHS.

  • Hey I noticed the channels and coming soon on this screen shot and I am curious as to what they are? Channels isn’t a link to MCE TV guide is it? – FantaXP7 over 1 year ago
  • Coming Soon is my trailers area for movies that are in theaters or coming to dvd/bluray soon. I manage that area with metabrowser 2’s current trailer feature. The channels feature in Neo presents a tv style DVR grid with random content for the EHS category your on. More info on channels can be found Neo Theme : Customizing ChannelsBAS over 1 year ago
  • Cool, thanks for the info. Seems like channels is somewhat similar to what ebr is working on with that psuedotv-like feature. – FantaXP7 over 1 year ago
  • BAS what font are you using in this image? It seems larger then my segoe UI font. – chef over 1 year ago
  • This is the Metro/Media Center style font work I did. You will need to enable small fonts on theme options page, and if you are using the NeoCustomFonts.mcml from Bold you would need to remove that to see these fonts in action. – BAS over 1 year ago

thanks for the replies! i wasn’t aware of an update to the dashboard, i do love the look of the neo theme though. looks like i’ll have to hook the 360 back up.

  • Yep if you have a Kinect for 360, their new dashboard gets amazingly cool with voice support and hand gestures. Can’t wait for Windows 8 and the next Xbox… :) – BAS over 1 year ago

hey BAS, do you know if the new xbox as an extender will support playing more files natively or without needing to have certain specs?

  • No clue no specs even released figure we will get an announcement at e3 about the new xbox. – BAS over 1 year ago
  • The new dashboard doesn’t really change any of the supported files. I do they they finally added 1, but I don’t recall which format it was and I don’t think it worked very well. Honestly if your in the market for a new extender I’d wait for the new Ceton Echo. While we have no specs on what formats it will play, the chipset it is based around supports most popular formats that people use. – gcw07 over 1 year ago
