Known issues and limitations

[improvement needed]

If you experience difficulties with ISO playback in Media Browser it may be a problem with DVD Autoplay Handling for Media Center in Windows.

Have a look at this post by DemonSeed which includes a reg key to restore DVD AutoPlay for MediaCenter.

It is recommended to make a registry export backup of the key below before running the reg key.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\AutoplayHandlers

Creating ISOs

To rip from a DVD to ISO requires any number of ripping programs.

DVD Shrink
– Start DVD Shrink
– Click Open Disc
– If converting from VIDEO_TS folder, click Open Files
– The disc will be analyzed

The next screen you see will be this alt text

  1. If you wish to backup the entire disc, go to step 3
  2. For just the main movie, click Re-author, double click the ‘Main Movie’ title
    • I suggest disabling the 2ch audio, unless that’s the only audio available
    • Otherwise you'll end up with director commentary
    • You can also adjust compression options here
  3. Click ‘Backup’
    • Under ‘Select Backup Target’, choose ISO Image File
    • Under ‘Select Target Image File’, choose the directory to save to

If you have trouble with decrypting using Shrink, download DVD Passkey and let it decrypt before you start Shrink

- It works on the fly
- Free during beta

DVD Fab – When you start DVDFab, make sure you choose the Free Edition before choosing Start

  1. Your disc is automatically analyzed
  2. Once it is open it should be under ‘Source’
  3. At the top, across from ‘Target’, all the way to the right is an icon of a disc. Click this and a screen will pop up asking where to save your .iso file
  4. Click ‘Start’

Other options

Keep in mind, Media Browser supports video_ts play back, so if you simply copy the contents of your DVD into a folder, Media Browser will be able to play it without any special programs.

If you're using XBOX 360 An easier method is to use DVD Shrink to convert your collection to VOB’s, then use VideoReDo to convert that VOB to an MPG(native format).
1. In Shrink, choose Edit, Preferences, Output Files, untick ‘split VOB’s into 1GB chunks
2. Change 'Select Backup Target’ to Hard Disc Folder, untick ‘create A/V subfolders

  1. Start Shrink, when that’s finished (15-20 mins), start VideoReDo and open the VOB you just made using Shrink. Once the file is open in VideoReDo, click Tools, Quickstream Fix, save as an mpg. This process only takes about 10 mins. So, in about 30 minutes you have a file compatible with the 360.

**If you use VideoReDo TV Suite you can rip from DVD straight to .mpg
