Question Ability to choose or filter fan art

First off, I’ve been using mediabrowser for years now, and gamebrowser since it changed from gametime. At this point I’ve become so dependent on them I feel like a caveman whenever I have to actually get up and put a DVD or game in the computer.

I have a questions specifically about gamebrowser however. In the new update it seems that it’s now gathering fan art from thegamesdb.net, which is great. I’m not sure if maybe it’s been doing this for a while and I hadn’t had the option enabled or what, but the issue I’m running into is the following. Some of the fan art really seems to be geared toward the younger generation of gamers, with girls in thongs and other stuff that I really have no desire for my kids (8 y/o and younger) to see. Specifically the PC games default backdrop is basically just a chick’s ass. I’ve since found the offending file in cache and deleted it, but I was wondering if there was a way to either disable fetching fan art (but not box art and other “official” art) or if there are plans in the works to have a middle-ware solution that will allow us to pick and choose what images we would like to display without having to use software like metabrowser or MCM. I’m just talking something simple that runs in between the content fetcher and the cache dump that lets you get a little bit more granular control.

My question is specific to gamebrowser, but this would be awesome for mediabrowser in general so we could avoid issues like the wrong language on some covers and so forth.

Again, awesome software. Thanks a million for any help, guidance, or updates anyone can give.

Thanks for turning me on to gamebrowser! I used to build packs for HyperSpin until I got burned out, this looks SO much better.. and integrated into MB.. what more could I ask for.

To answer your question, it looks like gamebrowser will use your own metadata info the same way MB will, so you can choose your own backdrops and they should take priority over image caches. Here’s a picture from their site as reference:

You can also build your own xml file just like MB so you can edit anything you like.

  • You’re welcome. :) I absolutely love gamebrowser, and I think I found the solution to my problem actually. There’s an option in the mediabrowser config menu to disable fanart. Regarding my own images taking precedence over cached images, I really don’t have the time or energy to put all those in place, let alone building XML files for my content. I’d much rather have it done automatically for me. As long as it looks half way decent I’m fine. – cwrlcjalm 11 months ago
  • I noticed the gamebrowser site doesnt really support many consoles. It also doesn’t look like its actively developed lately. How does it launch games correctly on each system? HyperSpin used autoHotkey scripts. – Baja Resident 10 months ago
