Media Browser has a built in function to retrieve metadata for movies and TV shows from the internet. These providers use http://themoviedb.org and http://thetvdb.com to get this data.
The Internet Providers are enabled by default and will start working as soon as you start Media Browser, depending on the size of your media library it may take some time for MB to find the data for every item in your collection.
The internet providers use the folder name of each movie/TV show to look up its metadata. For the most accurate results when using the builtin providers you should make sure that all of your media folder names match their entries on themoviedb or thetvdb. The most common reason for MB failing to retrieve the correct data is that the movie folder is named incorrectly.
Note: Media Browser’s Internet Providers do not download artwork for actors, genres or years. You will need to manually get artwork.
Additional information
- For more details about the recommended folder structure for movies and TV shows, please have a look at this topic.
- If you are having trouble with the internet providers or would just like better control over your metadata then you should try using a third party program to manage the data, you can find information about how to do this here
Important Note: These open providers are developed and updated through “the community”. Your contributions are also important so if you do not see an entry for a show/movie you do not see data, posters or fan art from, please sign up for an account at http://themoviedb.org or http://thetvdb.com and contribute.
