The High Quality Thumbnail (or HQT) plug-in will generate images extracted from your video in order to be automatically used as Poster Art. This functionality is very beneficial when online sources do not have an entry for a title and therefore no metadata retrieval is possible.
It’s intended to be used for items that don’t have available art elsewhere and for which a frame-grab is a good representation of the content. This usually means TV episodes or home videos for most people. Typically, these types of items are organized together so you don’t have the multiple aspect ratio problem.
Configuration options
To configure and use the HQT plug-in, you simply need to Install it. There are no additional steps for configuration.
How it works
The latest version of the HQT plug-in will attempt to grab a video frame after 300 seconds of the running time. This is the default setting, but can be adjusted as required. This requires that the Mediainfo plug-in also be installed. If the Mediainfo plug-in is not present, then the plug-in will default to looking 300 seconds into the video to grab a frame. Please note that the HQT plug-in will not be used if Poster Art already exists for the video.
Known Limitations
Since this plugin does not offer any configuration options you cannot selectively use this. It simply does what it does. This means that if you have a few movies without artwork while all others have downloaded posters, the aspect ratio of the extracted thumbnails may be wrong.
Additional information
- This plug-in uses mtn.exe from Movie Thumbnails Project which accounts for blur and does edge detection, overall producing a very nice thumbnail.
