Media Browser lets you change the view settings for a variety of screens. You can display and filter media in different ways. There are some exceptions:

  • You cannot change how the movie or episode detail screen is displayed
  • You do not have a view menu to change how the Enhanced Home Screen looks like.
Note: certain themes do offer options to change how the EHS looks, but you can find those in the configuration menu on the theme specific tab

So where do I find this view menu?

The view menu is located differently in each theme, but often you can find it near one of the edges of the screen. They can be shown as seperate buttons or it’s a gear or spanner icon

What can I change?

In the view menu there are several core options as well as theme specific ones. We'll summarize the default ones:

View
This sets the style your media is shown in. These can have slightly different names and of course the style is different from theme to theme, but in the default theme they are defined as:

  • Coverflow
  • Detail
  • Poster
  • Thumb
  • Thumb Strip

Show Labels
Enabling this will show the folder name or title of each media item

Use Banners
Enabling this will switch from showing poster artwork to banner artwork.

Note: Banners are rarely used for movies and are not retrieved using the built-in Internet Providers. If you set the view of a movie collection to banners, this can result in a screen that appears empty. Especially if Show Labels is disabled. This is because there is no artwork to show for any of the media items, thus showing a transparant item.

Thumb Size
Allows you to increase or decrease the size of the posters or banners in the current view style.

Note: Sometimes, when you set the thumb size too big, this can cause a crash. Try switching to a differnt theme that works, decrease the thumb size and then switch back to the original theme again.

Sort
As the name implies, the sort menu allows you to display the media in a particular order. In default theme they are defined as:

  • Name
  • Date
  • Rating
  • Runtime
  • Unwatched
  • Year

Filter / Index
By setting an index you get to see the media from different perspectives. Instead of the default Name index you can see your media grouped by the Actors that are starring in it or the year it was produced.

  • None
  • Actor
  • Genre
  • Director
  • Year
  • Studio

Theme specific

Themes can add their own view options like enabling/disabling backdrops. These vary from theme to theme and are therefor not listed.
