I would like to have an option to enable custom intro or trailers before the actual movie is played…please see design tab.

I was hoping the “Local Trailers” request that was just completed would have enabled this. But it looks as though Sam cut it out of the final product. You have my very enthusiastic vote!!

Completely agree – I really hoped it was coming with the Local Trailers request. This is definitely top of my wish list (unless someone can come up with a plugin that correctly suggests the winning lotto numbers)

Ok, everyone turned off by custom intros, fear not… Find your favorite Movie Studio, Dolby, or THX movie intros here. http://www.demo-world.eu/trailers/ Did I mention, many of them are high definition with lossless audio??

  • Got a load of these from a while ago, although the TrueHD ones play well in MPC-HC with FFDShow, the DTSHD-MA one don’t play so good. But they are very nice indeed!!!! – Cheesegeezer 6 months ago
  • Do you convert them to .mkv first? or is there a way to play them in their current format? – PMac 6 months ago
  • Yep, I convert them into mkv. :) – Cheesegeezer 6 months ago
  • I dont convert mine, they play perfectly… By themselves!! :( – xzener 6 months ago

I really hope this idea gets implemented. I've been racking my brain trying to find a way to make this work by (attempting) to modify other people’s scripts… With no luck. Ideally, for me I would like it to play 3 or so random trailers out of my collection. But random trailers for upcoming releases would be very cool too!

On a side note, if this idea does get implemented some how (fingers crossed), another nice option would be to have a Dolby/THX or “Your feature presentation” type intro play following the trailers (I think this would have to be a set filename, or possibly a shortcut placed in every folder as a playlist type file)

  • Have you seen the thread in the tutorial section in the forums about a script for intro’s?? It adds an intro playlist (asx) to your media. Give that a shot. – xzener 7 months ago
  • Yeah I've used that technique. Actually you were the one that referred me to the community tracker I believe lol. But anyways, I've used the technique from the tutorials section, unfortunately it’s only good for 5 trailers, I'd like one that can play random trailers from my entire collection, instead of having to manually move 5 trailers into the correct folder or be stuck watching the same 5 trailers before every movie. – PMac 7 months ago
  • I'm with you there on the Dolby/THX intro PMac….that would polish it more for me than trailers tbh! – Phantom Zone 6 months ago

  • Created:7 months ago

It would be very nice to have the trailers play at random. Allowing multiple trailers to be added to the trailers folder. 20+ trailers/intros in the folders, allowing for multiple trailer scenarios. You would never get bored watching the same trailers over, and over. Which is a limitation for the current tutorial in the MB forum.

One random custom trailer, 2 or 3 random movie trailers. Each of which (by Fatals design) can easily be turned on or off.

  • Created:7 months ago

@Fatal,

Is there any way apple trailers could be utilized into this feature?? It would be cool if it picked random apple trailers and played them along with a custom intro.

  • That could be a bitch with the buffering, would have to be easy to disable. – Shidojin 7 months ago
  • agreed, I dont use the HD ones, always buffering. An easy true/false in the XML would be good. Default off of coarse. – xzener 7 months ago
  • I don’t think so b/c that means your htpc needs to have internet access and some of my htpcs i only allow local network access, not the web…and Shidojin makes a good point about the buffering… – fatal 7 months ago
  • to edit: an option can be added though for users that want to use it though…heh, depends on the devs and how easy it would be to integrate – fatal 7 months ago
  • Could you throw that into the design maybe? – xzener 7 months ago

  • Created:6 months ago

This is definitely something I would like to see. Maybe there some way to link to the intro, with symbolic links or something. Anyway, I have a nice custom intro I would love to show off.

  • me23, its about time you joined the CT, welcome. Heere’s a thumbs up for your support for this feature. – xzener 6 months ago
  • Yeah, I know right. I can be such a slack ass sometimes – me23 6 months ago

  • Created:6 months ago

Just added my support. While at it, also please allow local trailers to be referenced and used in the xml (I cannot keep my trailers in a separate “Trailers” subfolder for each movie).

  • Created:6 months ago

I agree, been a fan of trailers since I got into my HTPC. My problem is I use DVD video folder format so I can’t use asx playlists to get by. Count me in!

  • Although a pain in the arse, encrypting intro’s into DVD is possible, just not feasible. – xzener 6 months ago

I too will throw my next wish onto this topic.. This is 1 piece from having a more “true Movie Theater experience” in my home.. thats what my end goal is with MB… probably thats a goal for many of us.

If we get this going i'd even like to see “genre-based” type trailers.. like when you go out to the movies, seeing a kids movie.. you wouldnt want your random trailers to be horror or something very adult, you'd ideally want “other kids movies”..

(the theaters near me usually do this as well.. but sometimes i've been surprised at how all the trailers really didnt “go with” the film i was about to see)

  • are iTunes trailers grouped/tagged by genre? – chadd 6 months ago

  • Created:6 months ago

Just thought I'd add, on th MB forum someone has come up with an easy way to play as many random intros as you want using a simple Kixtart script. I've tried it, and it works perfectly.

http://www.mediabrowser.tv/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=2108&sid=e7cf8609e69b00b9479a87f0f3d4275e&p=40460

  • Created:6 months ago

this feature has my wish.

if this was implemented without the use of iTunes, it would have to include some method to auto-download newest trailers and delete old trailers… i honestly don’t want to have a huge collection of old trailers sitting there taking up space, and constantly going out to manually find/download new trailers would end up being a pain.

my “dream scenario” when i play a movie is that it first plays a couple random new(ish) trailers that match the genre of the movie i'm going to watch, and then plays my local custom home theater intro, then goes into the movie.

  • Created:6 months ago

I just added my wish :D

if i get some free time I will try to write an app that can create asx playlists with Movie Genre" awareness by getting the movies, Genre from mymovies.xml, And try to compare with trailer genre I will to get The data from a source like TMDB In order to accomplish what Mrwebsmith posted above.

We don’t want kids trying to play “Toy Story” and get “The SAW” trailer first ;)

Have a great day guys.

  • Nicely put Tempo, thats the idea i was trying to get across above…. thanks! – Mrwebsmith 6 months ago
  • Well, this isn’t the way I was hoping this request would go. MyMovies will launch a couple trailers (within MCE) then automatically start a movie (even with external players). This is what I'm hoping will come of this request. – xzener 6 months ago
  • asx playlists don’t work for folder rips..unless there’s a way to make it work? http://www.mediabrowser.tv/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=326&p=11690#p11690fatal 6 months ago
  • i'm not really a fan of running all these external scripts and the whole playlist method. i'd much rather see this just integrated into MB as a plugin. – chadd 6 months ago

  • Created:6 months ago

You have my wish for this too. I'm with Xzener’s last comment, but I do see your point tempo.

I would certainly love to this implemented and really hope one of the devs takes ownership of this.

A nice addition to this and as stated earlier regarding the THX, DD, DTS, DTSHD and TrueHD intros, would be to have these always start directly after the trailers have finished and before the movie starts.

  • Created:6 months ago

This would be a great feature. Would love to see the random playing of a user selected number of trailer’s before a movies start. Ideally, streams new HD trailers vs. downloaded trailers for owned movies.

Keeping in mind, some use external players (mpc-hc, here), if that makes any sort of difference.

Hi,

After browsing through this site: http://www.demo-world.eu/ I thought it would be cool to play a trailer according to the first Audio track of the movie As we already use mediainfo.

Play a DTS trailer before DTS movie or Dolby Digital trailer :D

Something like IBN but for video clips by mediainfo codec recognition.

That would be nice :D

  • do they provide a FLAC trailer at demo-world? :) – chadd 6 months ago
  • Not that I've seen. – xzener 6 months ago
  • This is EXACTLY what I am hoping to do… if it’s a DTS track, play the DTS trailer… but before doing so, stream 1-2 random trailers from the Apple or Yahoo HD websites… Amazing! – slaman 5 months ago
  • This would be an awesome feature. Just getting custom intros to work is enough for me ATM. – xzener 5 months ago

this would be uber sweet!

I have a dream…..

click play movie, loads intro, curtains appear, music plays, ‘This home theatre supports’ ( with whatever logos below ), curtains open, screen zooms, old school 3,2,1 flash up….and cut! Movie plays…people smile :D

I might see if I can find a flash guru to do this….interest?

  • sounds neat to me… im no guru though but if you get something working and its testable let me know – Mrwebsmith 6 months ago

i think this request is starting to overlap with New Trailer Plugin Ideas

  • I agree, lets get these locally stored trailers / custom intros taken care of and put to use. Then lets get a trailer plugin down the road to support all of this, and streaming. ;) – BAS 6 months ago

  • Created:6 months ago

I agree with chadd… This request is for trailers to play before a movie. ie new releases, custom trailer, codec trailers. Not to be confused with downloadable HD trailers and the like. There was a plugin for that which is now obsolete.

  • well…trailers and custom intros ;) If you want to split the 2 up, let me know and i'll start another thread…. – Phantom Zone 6 months ago
  • not that i don’t think the 2 requests couldn’t be combined into one “Massive Awesome Trailer Experience” plugin. or MATE for short :D – chadd 6 months ago
  • lol…sounds good chadd! On second thoughts it might be a plan to put it in a second thread… – Phantom Zone 6 months ago
  • as long as we think of an awesome acronym… i think that’s the key – chadd 6 months ago

I am with xzener on this, This request is for the ability to play Intro/trailer before a a movie, And if xzener would agree (I dont want to hijack a thread)to include my request to for a codec trailer.

As I see it we are talking about locally stored trailers.

Tempo

  • i think taking into the scope the local/streaming options now at the beginning of this discussion would be better than building this around local trailers only and then trying to retrofit for streaming later down the road… – chadd 6 months ago
  • To me it’s a problem to stream 720p trailer, To much buffering. I have managed to write a tool that CAN download from apple and store the trailers locally in order to randomize them before a movie. the problem is that MB devs don’t really want to mess with apple, Cause apple change the trailers XML format and add restrictions like HTTP User Agent. Thats why I created my own tool for that, I as a very exited user of MB dont want the dev team to put so much effort to chase apple’s trailers, When I can do that on my own. Tempo – Tempo 6 months ago
  • Excited* – Tempo 6 months ago
  • im excited to hear about your script/tool, Tempo.. sounds like all we are missing is the incorporation of your “output/folder” into something that MB can see as a playable trailer. nice job! – Mrwebsmith 6 months ago
  • i'm indifferent as to whether it is apple or not, the other thread talks about alternative HD trailer sources, but i'm going to point out that Tempo’s comment reiterates the point i made in the other thread about some people wanting streaming and some not. Tempo doesn’t want to stream, and I, having a nice big fat internet connection, would much rather stream on demand than waste HDD space with trailers i may never watch… – chadd 6 months ago

This might be slightly off-topic of adding built-in support to MB; but is certainly on-topic regarding playlists and intros/trailers. I've modified HD-Trailers.NET Downloader (http://www.codeplex.com/hdtrailersdler) to pull trailers into a hierarchy suitable for use with MB, complete with folder images (which the app already had) and mymovies.xml metadata file (mainly for the description, but also containing any tags from the HD-Trailers.net RSS feed). I've also written a second C# app that will create an .asx file containing:

  • A random or specified file from a pre-trailers folder
  • A specified number of trailers; currently either random or newest-first (filtered by tag matching in the works)
  • A random or specified file from a post-trailers folder
  • A random or specified file from a pre-show folder
  • The movie file itself
  • A random or specified file from a post-show folder

The plan is to have this run once a day to regenerate the playlist for each movie, but I can’t seem to figure out the best way to get MB to handle the playlist. I've sifted through the countless posts about intros and trailers, but with no luck. So, the question is, is it possible to create an .asx in the same folder as the movie file (or an .asx for the “pre movie” stuff, the movie file, and an .asx for the “post movie” stuff) and have MB still display it as a single movie with all the glorious metadata and images and such? I've tried messing with the “treat multiple files…” setting, but to no avail. I'd be more than happy to share my app if I can get it to a working solution. Maybe better handling of .asx files would be a more doable feature for MB to add?

  • Would love a GUI for your tool! Thank you for joining, not sure where Media Browser sits on .asx support. – BAS 6 months ago
  • I have had (recently dropped) .ASX working with my MKV movies. I simply dropped the .ASX file in the same folder as the movie, and named it accordingly. For example: Pitch Black01.ASX, Pitch Black02.MKV. It worked beautifully, although it doesn’t work with DVD or BD rips. :( – xzener 6 months ago
  • DVD and BD intro support is what we need. I've seen it done with MyMovies so I know its possible. – xzener 6 months ago
  • I checked out the Downloader… How the heck do you use that thing?? Any chance of creating a tutorial thread over in the forum?? – xzener 6 months ago
  • The downloader as it stands has some problems. Mainly because it hasn’t been developed in a year and needed some work to get the direct downloads from trailers.apple.com to work properly. I also “trimmed” it up a bit to not have so many options, but to be more tailed to work with my MB setup. I should be able to get a chance in the upcoming week to post my modified version. – rwhapham 6 months ago

I add my support for this feature. Check out mypremovie.com and the images thereon. The tabs indicate what I would love to see included. It plays Trivia/Intros/Trailers/Movie. You can add music to play with Trivia, set location for each etc. Hope this gives some ideas.

  • Just DL'ed MyPreMovie and will check it out. By the looks of the program, this is what we need in MediaBrowser. It would be great if MB teamed up with MyPreMovie DEV’s to integrate this into MCE. This would definitely polish an already great experience. What do you guys think?? – xzener 6 months ago
  • I was one of the original testers on this. However the developer has not been working on it for sometime. There are some improvements still needed. If you have a read of his thread on AVS Forum, you will see additional requests that a number of us made. The program does depend on Quicktime and as Quicktime is upgraded some challenges are faced with it ceasing to work until the developer upgrades. However it is a program that does a good job and with the needed adjustments would be a great addition to MediaBrowser. – durants 6 months ago

Look something here will happen, but it needs a careful design.

In particular the following issues need to be addressed. And perhaps separate tickets opened

Custom intro:

Is it the same for all Shows
Is it the same for all movies and different for tv shows
Does it look at the mediainfo and run a custom intro based on the format?
At the moment home videos and music clips are treated as movies, do we exclude them from custom intros (is it based on the length of a movie – 5 minute movie, no intro)

This change must not affect resume functionality

Custom trailers:

  • Does it play for movies only? (again the issue with short movies / video clips)

What configurator changes need to happen?

Limitations

ISO intro/trailer will not be supported, its way too hard.

  • I think we were on track with having a trailer folder in the movie folder. What if the user could add a “Custom Intro” folder, and that would play before the movie. Would that break the resume feature?? As far as the mediainfo integration… That was one users opinion/idea. Home videos, and music clips that dont have the “Custom Trailer” folder would obviously not play one. If it were to be designed that way, would a configurator change need to happen?? – xzener 6 months ago
  • BTW, thanks for approving this awesome feature request Sam. – xzener 6 months ago
  • @Sam Are you and Binnerup on good graces?? Perhaps we could ask how he got it (ISO/custom trailers) working with MyMovies?? – xzener 6 months ago
  • I doubt we will get any kind of help from binnerup on this … technically I know what to do, its just that it is a mission and a half to support isos as intros – sam 6 months ago
  • @sam I added my design concept which I think answers all of your questions. – Tempo 6 months ago

  • Created:6 months ago

IMO, Fatals design seems as though it would work nicely. One folder to house upto like 2 or 3 intro’s. (For example: one custom, one codec, one movie preview) This wouldn’t even require a configurator option would it??

Here is another idea…

Have it to where you could have numerous “Custom Intro” folders. This could eleviate the problem of having, say a “DTS-HD Intro” playing with a DVD, which we all know is wrong. Have it play a “Dolby Digital” intro.

  • “DVD Custom Intro” folder for DVDs.
  • “Bluray Custom Intro” folder for Blurays.
  • etc…

That setup might require a configurator option.

Having a couple “Custom Intro” folders would solve the problem of having intro’s play when not needed. IE; Music, Home Movie Clips

  • Please Check the design tab, And tell me what you think. :D – Tempo 6 months ago

Okay, I haven’t been following this thread in a while so I'm just going to throw this out there…

Do I understand this whole thing correctly? Are y'all painstakingly trying to design and implement a system that will allow you to put back all the trailers that you went to all that trouble to rip out when you ripped your movie in the first place…?

[ebr ducks]

I know, I know, this will be the trailers and intros you want, but, still, struck me as funny : )

  • LOL not what I'm planning on doing at all. – BAS 6 months ago
  • No not at all. This is my take on things, to allow “coming soon” trailers to be played (current ones not ones that come with your 6yr old DVD) –. i.e. Theatre trailers. Then a DTS/DD/THX style intro to be played before the movie starts. An add-in feature would be to play a trailer of a movie you own and have downloaded to trailers folder if you haven’t watched that movie for say over 6 months or a period of time. Does that make sense???? Hope so. – Cheesegeezer 6 months ago
  • Makes perfect sense to me. – xzener 6 months ago

Great work Cheesegeezer. Here is my basic wish list:

Ability to play: Slides/Trivia,Trailers, Intros, Movie

For Slides/Trivia, Trailers & Intros: Ability to select alphabetically or randomly

For Slides/Trivia: Ability to play music with them alphabetically or randomly and select length of time to play.

Folders for Slides/Trivia, Music,Trailers, Intros, Movies

  • Really? Doesn’t slides/trivia seem like it might be a little much? haha. I mean, at the theatre you have to sit through like 20 minutes of that stuff while you wait for the movie to start… – PMac 5 months ago
  • Not really.Read that slides or trivia. Ability to play either, both and or and the length of time that you require. I currently use a program that provides that flexibilty but does not work with MB. – durants 5 months ago

Note I retagged this as a plugin request, this functionality will be a plugin as opposed to core functionality. There is a fair amount of things that can go wrong so I would like to isolate this out of MB. Also this is not a feature that every user needs.

@Cheesegeezer Great work! you need to open a thread for your plugin, Were we will follow And swamp you with feature requests :D

  • Would I open it as Fanart or what. I think I will leave it here for time being until it’s at alpha/beta level and just update/comment on progress for the design. I've noted the features that everyone would like and will incorporate them as I get more comfortable with the coding side. – Cheesegeezer 6 months ago
  • @cheesegeezer you have so many comments on post in the design tab that I cannot add anymore :D – Tempo 6 months ago
  • The way to do this is to use a new tag lets say “custom-intros” for all feature requests relating to this plugin, that way cheesegeezer can follow it up. – sam 6 months ago

What’s the best way to go about setting up a topic for this feature using just my design. I don’t want to mess up the CT in any way, shape or form. So would appreciate your input.
