Here is what you will need…

• A English installation of Photoshop, CS3, CS4, or CS5 (Sorry, but my Action will only work on English)
• Some artwork to be used for Poster, Spine, and Disk (links found below)
• My download (link found below)

A Brief Introduction To My Process:

I have fully automated the process of making all three icons by making a Action that can be played back. The action will automatically open all the images and the psd’s and build the icons.
All you need to do is, put the set of folders that I have included in the download into your C: Drive.
That folder set is, “Photoshop Temp” and its subfolders. Inside the Photoshop Temp folder you will have three more folders.

• Image Processing
• Output
• PSD’s – Action Plugins

The Image Processing folder is the one you will put the images that you want in the icon. From there Photoshop will do the rest.
The Output folder is kind of obvious… Its where Photoshop will output the icons.
PSD’s – Action Plugins folder is where the psd’s are stored. You will not need to interact with that folder. (unless to add new action sets :)
Again the correct path for the photoshop temp folder is C:\Photoshop Temp

In the download you will find the actions to install into your photoshop. To turn on the use of actions in photoshop press Alt-F9, and the action window will open.

On to making the icon…

You need to have your disk inserts and a Poster and a Spine ready to go. I have provided you links to sites where you can find disks and Full poster scans to get the spine to use.

I have set this up so that regardless of the particular icon you want to make, All 3 will be built. I have done this because I really want you guys to share whatever it is you make. So even if you don’t want the 3D icon, you MUST still place a spine in with the other images or the Action will error out.

This action set is made so you can make a verity of different sets. You can build a boxset with as little as 2 disks, or as much as 6 disks. Its totally up to you how many you would like to have in your completed icon. Just select the number of disks your using and go!

Here is the list of the Mandatory file names you will need to have in the image processing folder before running the action.

• 1.jpg (a.k.a. Poster)
• Spine.jpg
• cd1.png
• cd2.png
• cd3.png ~ etc. up to cd6.png

You will make the disks first then play the boxset action.
I have made this video to show one being made start to finish.

Thank you so much for making these. I do not have any request as of yet. There are so many box sets Icons, I doubt I'll get to use all you have there. I just have a question…. I'm not sure if this the right place to ask, but it is somewhat related. I have been able to set up box sets withe icons and a backdrop pretty east. I have run into one problem though. When I only have two movies in a box set they don’t show up. The box set icon and backdrop works, but when you click on it, it tries to play both movies as one. As soon as you put three movies in the collection folder it works. I can’t do that on severl collection that only have two movies. I have searched this out before posting, I did find the same question somewhere, but the solution they said was add another movie, but if the collection is only two movies that won’t work. This is how I have it set up.

Movies/box set collection folder/movie folder/movie

                            /movie folder/movie

I wasn’t exactly sure how to type that out, but I think you get the picture. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

WoW, I never thought that I would get a response this fast and this late. I guess i'm not the only one that doesn’t sleep much lol. Thanks A lot. I don’t see menu options though, I see General, Media options, Themes, and Parential Control. I have version 2.2.1.0 if that matters. Maybe I need to update my media browser. Under media options i have nested folders on. I turned on auto enter single folder items. I did not not see multiple file behavior though. Thanks again.

LoL didn’t know there was a add more pulgins option there. Is that something new the older version didn’t have? I feel more and more like a newb everyday :) Ok, well my problem with the box sets is fixed, but it caused another problem. There are a few movies that have two parts, but played as one movie and it got the metadata for it too. … now it thinks the two parts is two seperate movies even though they are in the same folder. If its not one thing its something else lol. Now what do i do? thanks again.

Hey, I have a possible fix for the two movie box set issue. This may not be the best, but should work. I saw someone saying something about using a blank .avi file for movies they had on dvd and not on the computer so it will show up in the library. I was thinking that you could just throw one of those in the box set that has only two movies and it will think it has three movies in there, and will work and your two part movies will work too. You could put the blank.avi in there and put a boxset icon in that folder and a backdrop to clean it up. It won’t play a movie but it won’t look bad. I just don’t know how to make a blank .avi. Do you know how to make a blank .avi? Do you think that will work?

Well, i tired putting a blank avi in with a box set and tired it by itself and it didn’t see it both ways. I know they are getting it to work some how. I wonder what they are doing.

I suppose I'm not the first to ask, but what do I do with the ‘poster.jpg’ file? And how do you show backdrops for the boxset? For some odd reason the Toy Story boxset is the only one showing a backdrop and it’s using the backdrop from the Toy Story I movie folder. I deleted the Backdrop from the Toy Story folder and lo and behold the backdrop STILL shows! I'm perplexed. Any help would be appreciated :)

I am sure you will be relieved to see that this not another new request (I am saving all those up for another big post).

I just wanted to ask what you view was on remakes of old movies. Do you feel that these should be in a box set? Technically they are not sequels but they could be grouped together (not that I don’t feel you have enough to be going on with and new more icons to make).

Off the top of my head I can think of a few to give you an example. The Thomas Crown Affair and Psycho for example have been remade.

Do you feel like make icons for movies with remakes?

I could'nt find the leprechaun collection in the set. so i decided to make it. ive followed your instructions, and Ive made the poster, spine, cd1 cd2 –> cd6 saved it as what you told me to do :P but when i organize the .jpg gets removed. and when i try to set images i get a option to find my files , and then everything screws up, any thoughts ideas of what im doing wrong ?

I recently received a donation from someone and there was no notes on it for what it was for. Just would like to say thank you properly to whoever this came from.

Love the boxset icons. Have been trying to organize my boxsets and stumbled upon a small problem I'm having and can’t quite get fixed. The boxset icons show up smaller than the rest of the poster icons in my coverflow. I use the CoverArt plugin to wrap the posters in a clear case and am using the clearcase boxset icons. The dimensions of the boxset icons are smaller than the poster icons, but not all of my poster icons are the same size originally, but they all show up the same size in MediaBrowser, so I expect the boxset icons too show up the same size as well, but as you can see below they are not. Any ideas on how to fix this?
