Media Browser - Thunder Blade 2.2.2.0 Now Released

A call for sponsors!

Media Browser is looking for sponsors, if you or anyone you know would like to sponsor the Media Browser project please contact sam.saffron<at>gmail.com. We would love to have a page on our website dedicated to thanking our sponsors.

We are now taking donations!

The Media Browser project started taking donations, don’t be shy, all the money we raise will go to ensuring the awesome that is Media Browser continues.

Special Thanks

Special thanks to all the developers, testers, and users who posted feedback in both the forum and here on the community tracker, and anyone else whom I've missed that contributed on this release.

As a standalone release this is a significant one for Media Browser. A great deal of work has taken place in refining our backend plug-in architecture and creating standards that benefit not only developers but ultimately you the consumer. Its now easier than ever to create a plugin to Media Browser which should allow for talented developers to really put their own spin on Media Browser.

On a somewhat personal level the ThunderBlade release validates the direction we've done for the past 3 / 4 releases and takes it to another level (I'm a bit excited …). So I've rambled on long enough there is only one thing left to say – enjoy!

We would also like to call out the following changes:

  • Much has been said about Media Browsers memory usage, we have taken the plunge and added setting that minimizes memory usage (and in turn take up more CPU) to enable this setting have a look at: Memory usage of MB is really high. In particular there is a new setting in the configuration file that can be set manually: called CacheAllImagesInMemory when set to false, memory usage goes way down.
  • Local trailer support is pretty cool very high WAF see: Local trailers support

Excellent work guys – it’s a superb release

ps..

I forgot to ask last time we spoke Jas,

Is the SQLite feature still available? (I think I saw something about this being disabled during testing)

Cheers Tylor :–)

SQLite was still available throughout the alpha testing so I imagine it has remained for this release.

Still available. I think you may have got confused when I said I normally disable that option (I'm not brave enough to use it … hehe).

Can’t wait to get home and try this. Upgrade or clean install? Any recommendations?

Shidojin Shidojin says:
February 22, 2010

Upgrade should work perfectly well, I've not done a clean install throughout the alpha testing or a long time before then.

Birkoff Birkoff says:

Upgrade works perfectly! no issues here.

I'd like to thank the DEVs, testers, and the community. This thing just keeps getting better and better!! Funny thing is, I've been doing nothing but reading, and posting all night. I'm still running RC4!! HAHA, off to download Thunderblade.

Thanks again,

Be carefull with this install, i would give it some time before installing as it has broken my media center, I get INVALID APPLICATION unable to launch “media browser” with an option to disable it. I get it randomly, sometimes as soon as i open any entry point and some times while moving thru the menus. The backdrops are also not showing on the tv shows selection menu etc also episodes done appear without changing the view a few times.

Update: although not 100% fixed installing the diamond plugin has helped. I think the issue is that in the previous version i had options selected that have been removed.

Many thanks for this new release!

I made a donation but unless I'm doing soomething wrong one can only donate in australian dollar?

I've been following the progress on thunderblade. I installed it yesterday and am using chocolate theme. except for the configurator plugin part, I'm not noticing anything new? normal?

@ michaelv: I'm also experiencing ‘invalid application unable to launch mediabrowser’ randomly

Birkoff Birkoff says:

@michaelv & ehgeahrev: please post your issue in a seperate topic on the tracker. It’s impossible to follow up on it here in blog comments.

ps: it might very well be that it’s the chocolate theme. I don’t know if it’s updated specifically for Thunderblade.

I was having problems the other day with Media browser 2.2.2 freezing on the t.v. Just a blank screen. Any one else? It has never done that before. Media Browser was the only program running, I mean nothing else was taking up CPU or anything. What do you think Jas? I down graded my Front room HTPC to Media browser Firestorm. But I miss the Thunderblade on the big screen.

Also Jas is it possible to make the green buttons for the Config disappear after a while instead of staying on the screen? Thanks man!
