Feature Posters support for MyMovies + StarkCover / Allow PNG precendence over JPG

At the moment MyMovies donwload metadata creating a FOLDER.JPG for the movie poster. After I pass posters thru StarCover it convert FOLDER.JPG to FOLDER.PNG (and optionally create a FOLDERBKP.JPG). Since there is no more a FOLDER.JPG file in the directory, MyMovies automatically downloads again the FOLDER.JPG, so you have 2 posters in your movie folder:

  1. the MyMovies poster as FOLDER.JPG
  2. the StarkCover-ed poster as FOLDER.PNG

Since MB processes before .JPG and then .PNG for posters, at the end you see always the original posters instead of StarkCover-ed posters.

I suggest to modify order of searching posters making first .PNG and then .JPG If the community agree I can porcced with modification directly and commit.

Its a really minor change, my concern is, will this break anyones images? Personally I'm fine with it, I never have more that one folder image in my folders.

Yeah, we could end up with a backlash of people wondering why their images all changed for no reason (not even realizing they had a folder.png).

Alternatively, you could use CoverArt.. ; )

what about a preference setting, maintining actual JPG then PNG default?

  • I think this is the way to implement this. Keep current functionality as is, but add a switch to allow “enthusiasts” the ability to move the default to PNG. – sinjen about 3 years ago

I would like to see an option to choose the folder.png files as prefered. Folder.jpg is needed to have images in now playing.

I went ahead and did this (birkoff’s design). You can test it in current trunk.

I got the png files as prefered now but I needed to delete the old config file after the update and let it made a new one. Otherwise it didn’t work.

Hi, so how do i make this config change ??

I would like it so MB uses the folder.png if none .jpg this means but i can still have a folder.jpg for windows to use as a folder icon as windows do’t use a .png as a folder icon.

P.S any one know if accounts get removed for non use here ? I am sure i joined years ago but could not find my account so i had to creted a new one.

  • You’ll need to manually edit the ‘MediaBrowserXml.config’ file to change this setting, you’re looking for ‘PNGTakesPrecedence’. More info about how to do this can be found here: Explanation of MediaBrowserXml.config settings – Riccardo over 1 year ago
