Hey all, Just a very quick question.

I have gone through all my TV shows and Films and gone and got all the metadata including folder, background, episode images. Plus i have got my icons for EHS and backdrops. So these are already stored on my machine, why is mediabrowser putting them in the cache when they are already on the machine?

For performance reasons, MB stores all images locally in the cache, and often at multiple sizes. So for example, when you're scrolling through cover flow, having the focused item zoomed in, then seeing a larger cover in the details view, it all runs with smooth performance and at a decent speed.

  • Ok, just seems a bit wierd to be storing the images twice, i know mediabrowser renames the files so it know what it is getting. Thank you for the reply – Dave2384 almost 3 years ago

  • This allows MB to pull the images all from one folder, versus literally thousands of separate ones in some cases. It also gives you the ability to store the image cache (What MB ends up using) on a smaller, faster hard disk, or SSD..giving you a tremendous increase in speed. The main reason however is to have a local copy of the images for those of us storing our media on a remote server. This way the PC with MB isn’t constantly sending requests to get image data from the server while viewing other content on the server (The actual media files). It helps speed things up, drastically. – Villian88 almost 3 years ago
