Bug Weird Backdrop Behavior

I'm experiencing some strange behavior with backdrops. If only “Show Initial Folder Background” is checked, there is no backdrop displayed even though I do have a file called Backdrop.jpg in the folder. This backdrop does display (eventually) if I also turn on the “Show Fanart…” However, when rotation is turned on, it doesn’t rotate the files in sequence. It seems to pull a “random” file to initially display (always the same one unless randomize is turned on), but not the backdrop.jpg. It then proceeds to rotate through the files but not sequentially.

What’s even weirder is that the first backdrop to be shown is not always the same number (e.g. could be backdrop5.jpg for one movie, and then backdrop9.jpg for another). The only thing that works as expected is if I turn on all the features (Show Fanart, Rotate, Randomize), then backdrops will just rotate randomly. This has happened with two themes, Subdued and Diamond, that I've tried. Is this abnormal behavior or is there something I'm missing? Thanks!

That’s by design. See here.

As for the rest, that sounds like a problem with subdued and diamond. You should probably add subdued and diamond tags to this topic, to get the attention of the theme devs.

  • You mean, even if only the “Rotate” option is used and not “Random”, it will pull up a “random” backdrop? Again, by this, I mean that it -always- pulls up the same backdrop when only “Rotate” is on, just not the Backdrop.jpg. Will add tags as suggested. – koi over 2 years ago
  • Yep, that’s correct. Random refers to the order they rotate. Random On = rotate to the next random backdrop. Random off = rotate to the next sequential backdrop. But the first backdrop is always chosen randomly. – neil18 over 2 years ago
  • Hi Neil. Thanks for the clarification. I should also add then that even with “Random” off, the images do not rotate sequentially. I'll have to verify even if it isn’t sequential, if it rotates in the same order. – koi over 2 years ago
