Using Phoenix in diamond theme, not had this problem with previous releases.

Sometimes when opening a video I get an error.

“We can not maximize the window for some reason! Object reference not set to an instance of an object.”

I have seen this too a few times, but I can’t find a way to duplicate. It just seems to happen sometimes when starting playback of a video.

Altogether, I have seen this 4 times in the last 10 days or so.

I have not seen this since I upgraded to 1536

I have seen this error one or twice in Phoenix when using the music plugin. It didn’t go to the now playing screen.

I have also had this once. I had to exit and re enter MB. no biggie. if its happened more often I could see it being annoying.

I am geting this too – diamond theme and randon – I am not sure what the “reason this happening' above actually means?

looks like the 2nd bit of code is the one that should work with no issues.

have this too.

Video starts playing though in the background an can be accessed when you go to the mediacenter main screen and hit the now playing tile

Please take note of the steps when this happens. Especially in terms of what media you started off and what you opened next. ie open MB, played some music, pushed back, started a movie and BAM!

Enough people have seen this that it definitely confirmed. Now we just need to find the spots to fix it…

Does anyone with this problem use music?

PLEASE PLEASE enable logging when the error occurs go to the log and get the stack trace, search for “Failed to go to full screen” the stack trace will come after it.

I have been seeing this too. When it happens for me, it’s unrecoverable — I have to exit WMC and re-open it, then it works.

I'll enable logging and post when it happens again.

Have seen this on Windows 7.

Have no idea how to recover from AddInHost.Current.MediaCenterEnvironment.MediaExperience returning null.

Once it returns null we have no way to go full screen.

This is a Microsoft bug with Windows 7 and TV pack.

PLEASE raise this with MS

I hope this is fixed…I was going to go back to Vista this weekend it has become such an issue. I will be sure to compile and try today!

Edit:

Just tried it out on a few random movies and TV episodes and I did not encounter this problem once. Previously, it would occur on every playback attempt and I would have to go to the main 7MC menu and go to the Now Playing item to view.

I compiled at 1614.

hmm, may have to give this compiling lark a go.

Sam: I have been running same install of Win7 RTM since June, and I never saw this bug until Phoenix.

I still see this issue crop up, we are going to have to open a ticket with MS. But I do not have the 200 dollars to invest in this at the moment.

forgive my ignorance but if it was ok in the previous version then how is it ms fault?

@cambelious seeing it was released in august I find it hard to believe :)

@hier

We run:

AddInHost.Current.MediaCenterEnvironment.PlayMedia(Microsoft.MediaCenter.MediaType.Video, path, false);
AddInHost.Current.MediaCenterEnvironment.MediaExperience.GoToFullScreen();

This is the sanctioned way to play a Video by MS and it fails.

The reason you don’t see it is perhaps because the information bar is more visible since Pheonix (prior to pheonix the info bar was only available on the main screen)

@Sam: You might be right… But I didn’t start running Phoenix code on my main system until about 3 weeks ago.

@Jon is the situation still much better, I am also noticing stuff seems much better with my round of fixes

  • Created:over 2 years ago

I didn’t get a chance to watch more than a couple of shows, but still did not see it. If it is still occurring, then it is definitely an improvement over previous builds.

After a few days of using the fix, this is MUCH better.

I am marking this fixed, there is a different bug that may pop up, but I will wait for people to report it.
