Sharky and CCCP are good PACK options. Some people prefer installing only some codecs I have no problems with those two packs as long as you pass all audio and video encoding through FFDshow.

  • how do i ensure that i am passing all through ffdshow in shark codecs? – wizBang about 2 years ago
  • On the Shark007 Settings App audio tab. There’s a FFDshow pass-through box at top-right. Set to use pass-through (Digital Audio). This will make the settings on the left automatically change and they should be left alone. There is more to it though. Best head over to Shark forums and read a bit. – brodier about 2 years ago

Depends on what you are trying to accomplish. I prefer the minimalist approach, so I use TMT for my BluRay folder rips, mpc hc for my mkvs, and the internal WMC player for all other files which should be supported natively. The only “codec” I need to install is FFDShow (which is used to bitstream HD Audio via MPC HC). Of course TMT and MPC HC launch from Media Browser

  • Is there any tricks to installing FFDShow do i need to install 32 and 64 bit as my pc runs 64 bit – Dazzer about 2 years ago

Either one. if you plan on using MPC HC you MUST make sure that FFDShow and MPC are the same (so both are x32 or both are x64). If you want to use FFDShow with the internal WMC player you MUSt use x64 as WMC internal is an x64 player. Here is my guide on how to set up MPC HC + FFDshow:

I side with dbone and go minimal. Haali with ffdshow only for me. It plays everything and I have DXVA (with subs).

  • You just have to be careful with Haali because it causes issues with DTS(MA) in mkvs created by mkvmerge. The newer mkvmerge has a fix for this, but for previous mkvmerge created mkvs you need to edit the header to fix (otherwise you get a lot of stuttering). – dbone1026 about 2 years ago
  • No receiver to support MA, so I guess that’s why I never encountered it. I will be ordering a new Onkyo soon that does, so I will have to look out for this. I use mkvmerge extensively :\ – Jon about 2 years ago

I spent weeks trying to fix issues that I was having with Shark007. Today I switched to K-lite, and everything is working perfectly with no hassles. I'm running Win7 Pro 64bit.

As a few are suggesting. I also feel it is better to ditch Shark/CCCP k-lite and go with just the Matroska(Haali) splitter and FFDShow.

Bad @Jon for not linking it… :) Jon has a very useful article on his site here that I used to setup my HTPC. Thanks to it, I have everything playing the way I want and 5.1 audio on every movie that is > stereo

  • It’s always better to have a third party advertise for you :) – Jon about 2 years ago
  • does your setup play movie trailers and intros – Dazzer about 2 years ago
  • don’t use mbintros, but it definitely plays trailers. – Redshirt about 2 years ago

Interesting thread guys and a good read. I have a mix of mkv and mp4 videos with aac and ac3 sound. Currently hooked up to my receiver via optical cable for sound but will eventually use hdmi.

Would u guys suggest ditching the shark codecs and just use haali and ffdshow?

  • That’s all I use. I don’t see a point in using Shark’s if you know how to configure ffdshow. Of course, that doesn’t go to say that I'm making light of that task either. – Jon about 2 years ago
