I don’t think the odds are looking good for you, here. Throgmorton already declined implementing the end time in his themes in this topic:

This one is a deal breaker for my wife. It you could implememt, it would be a sale closed to me :-D I just need it in vanilla. I’d pickup the $40 theme pack if ya fancy doing it? B-)

  • I don’t know what it is with the end time thingy being so important. You have a clock on the screen, you have the length of time of the content, simple arithmetic and you got the end time. TV shows are normally less then 45 minutes unless they are BBC, movies 90 minute to two hours, look at the watch on the screen do the addition which helps with avoiding to get Alzheimer and enjoy the show. – One2Go 11 months ago
  • TV shows aren’t the issue – it’s movies. And many movies are an odd length, not necessarily a nice round 90 minutes or two hours. I know throgmorton hates end time, but I really don’t think it’s unreasonable to at least have the option of displaying it. – AdrianW 11 months ago

Wow, I’m not sure what’s happening to this community at the minute! If you’re making a statement like that, then let’s go the whole hog! what’s the point it media browser?! I mean, you have some folders, with that you have a couple of videos. Why bother spending all that time collecting meta data, organising it and it getting Looking all nice, when you can just use a keyboard and a mouse to select the video you want and double click it?!

You’ll have to forgive my sarcasm, but for me, media browser as all about simplicity, a very info and image rich interface which gives you everything you need or should want on a screen with a remote control. I’m not actually the primary user of media browser in my house, My wife is. I like the configuration and geek setup bit and my wife is the main user of the UI. When she has been out all day working her ass off, when its 10 or 11 o'clock at night an she just wants to know if a show or film will finish at a time she’s happy with before going to bed, the last thing she wants to do is calculate the end time of the show.

I’m not sure why this new unhelpful vibe is coming into the mb community at the moment but I’m not liking it.

  • I also find the end time that is displayed in Diamond (and other themes) to be very useful, maybe not for TV shows that much, but for movies it’s really helpful to know what time it would end if you started watching it now. – AdrianW 11 months ago

I’m not exactly sure which statement you are referring to (I assume it was the Alzheimers remark). But just with regards to the topic at hand (end time). I have always looked at feature requests on an effort vs. added value basis. Currently and this is only my opinion, is that “End Time” brings little to no added value, as the running time is displayed. Especially since the effort is a decent chunk of time I would have to spend implementing this, that’s not to say its complicated to code as its not, its just I would have to add it to 9 themes on 5 views per theme along with 10 details pages for a total of 55 layout changes not to mention adding the additional logic to toggle this feature on or off.

So for me right now this sits as an extremely low priority request even if there is a lot of community support. I much rather spend what time I have on things I believe have a much higher added value. Like making all menu options dynamic in nature (ex: being able to switch skins without quitting MB, possibly even making it a cached condition so as you can have different colors for different points in your collection)

I don’t want to discourage anyone from asking for features as I will always think about adding features even though I may or may not use the functionality. In the end it always breaks down to effort vs. added value.

So If I end up turning the feature down its not to say that the request isn’t valid or there opinion doesn’t matter. In the end this is my theme and my vision and I hope users do not take it personally, if I say no from time to time.

I’d also like to see this added as well as MPAA ratings on all the views.

Personally, I love having the end time showing. I can easily flip through movies and determine which ones will end around when I need to go to bed if it’s showing on the screen. I don’t want to think at 10 at night lol. I want it to tell me ;)

Sorry for the off-topic post and also I am sorry if the Alzheimer comment offended anyone, but it actually was based on scientific studies and research that has been made on How to Slow Down or Reduce Chances of Getting Alzheimer’s. Here are two quotes:

How to Reduce Chances of Getting Alzheimer’s
4. Keep your brain active. Engage in activities to keep your brain sharp. Read books, do crossword puzzles, math problems and other things to challenge you mentally. Even physical exercise can help by getting the heart pumping and the blood flowing to your brain and other organs. The more you use your brain, the more connection between your brain cells, and the more mentally alert you can be. The brain is a muscle—and just like with the muscles of your arms or legs, if you don’t use them, they atrophy. Keep yourself physically and intellectually active with hobbies.

Brain-boosting exercises

Dr. Majid Fotuhi, an assistant professor in the Department of Neurology at John Hopkins University School of Medicine and chairman of the Neurology Institute for Brain Health and Fitness in Baltimore, recommends several brain boosting exercises:

Do math in your head.

While grocery shopping, tally the cost of your purchases in your head.

Benefits: left parietal lobe, the part of your brain used to make mathematical calculations.

A pint of beer is also good for it – Although I’m not quite elderly yet lol.

Scientists from the Central Institute of Mental Health in Manheim, Germany, followed 3,200 people aged over 75 for three years and concluded that those who drank the equivalent of a medium glass of wine or a pint of beer were 29 pr cent less likely to show signs of dementia amd 42 per cent less likely to develop Alzheimer’s than those who were tee total.

It would make choosing something to watch easier for sure. Use the brain enough times at work, don’t work to use it at home as well :)
