Discuss WMC Themes: is it possible to set 2 different background images?

I’m currently using the Fractal Tiger Media Center theme and I like it a lot. There’s one thing that’s bugging me since the introduction of MB Intros and I wonder if the mce theme guru’s here can offer a solution.

With MB Intros, when one media file ends and the next one starts, media center shows the background image for a brief second with the fading effect. The experience would be much better if there was just a black background so you wouldn’t notice this effect.

But setting a black background would remove the awesome tiger aswell which I’d rather not have.

So the question is: is there a single background image in MCE or can we set multiple to tackle this problem?

I know when editing the ehres.dll the value that holds that background image allows for only one entry. My guess is that we’re stuck with that one image.

I seem to remember an article about this on hack7mc.com, but the site is down. My best guess would be if it can be done you will need restorator to do it. Its a free trial but my trial expired so I cant test it out.

  • There is a guide here using Media Center Studio, but even using Restorator allows only one image to populate COMMON.BACKGROUND.PNG image space. – Jon about 2 years ago
  • Oh, well it was a good dream. I have always wished that like xmbc the backgrounds could changer depending on the page choice. – scoyne88 about 2 years ago

I am having a similar concern. I am using a theme that I created with the Fractal Tiger background as well. It really looks nice, but I would like to have my background darken about 80 percent when I click on any of the tabs so that it doesn’t interfere with visibility of what I am trying to look at. I have been trying different things to get it to work, but wasn’t having much luck. I just found some interesting information here that might help.
