Question problem with running pearl and the back rounds

I'm happy with the Pearl theme but I want to know what settings I need to show the full background cos since I updated MB and paid for the pearl theme they are very faded and I wanted to know how to get it showing the background in full colour.

Thanks for all your help every one :)

Hi chriscozens,

There are a few options to change the filter that is applied on the backdrop images.

  • You can create a skin yourself. This requires manual editing of xml files and lots of testing to get things right
  • Use a skin that other community members have created for the Pearl theme. Tobias even created a Skins Manager that contains preview images of alot of skins various community members have.

I'd recommend the Skins manager as it is by far the easiest way to apply different themes for Pearl.

  • a Skins Manager link doesnt lead any where :( is it not a setting to change or does it need a new skin? – chriscozens about 2 years ago

As birkoff said, there are two options. But if you are running a Pearl theme you like the colours of, etc., but would just like the backdrop to show more, all you really need to is edit (in Notepad) pearl_styles.mcml which can be found in ProgramData\MediaBrowser\Plugins\pearl. Look for the entry <Color Name="P_Filter_Base2" Color="xxx,255,255,255"/>. The first xxx numerical value (0-255) is the alpha value, controlling the amount of background bleed. The higher the value the more the Pearl gradient background will show through, the lower the value the more the fanart backdrop will show through. Have a play until you find a setting you are happy with. If it all goes wrong, just delete pearl_styles.mcml – a new default mcml will be created next time you fire up MB.

Hope this helps

birkoff and keef,

Thanks. That’s exactly what I was looking for. You should put this in the wiki for anyone who wants to know the same thing.
